In case you haven’t heard, the FAFSA for next school year is available early this year! Instead of January 1st like previous years, the application for the 2017-2018 academic year opens October 1st.
Not only did the open date change, but the taxes used to complete it is different this year too. Instead of using tax return information from the previous year, you and your parents (if applicable) will use returns from two years ago (so for the 2017-2018 year you’ll use the 2015 tax return information).
The great thing about this change is you will already have your taxes filed and if you’re eligible to use the IRS DRT, you can speed up your FAFSA completion by using it to electronically import your taxes right away. Get a jump start on next year by filling out your FAFSA early!
